The accumulation of material residues of human existence has effectively created a new layer on the surface of our planet. Comprised of landfills, industrial waste dumps, and urban construction debris made up of old bricks, cement, rusting metal and other man-made material, this layer is now referred to by geologists and archaeologists as the archaeosphere.
